Nurseries that are free of Neonicotinoids

Neonicotinoids (or neonics) are a class of synthetic neurotoxic insecticides widely used in crops, gardens and lawns. Neonics cause widespread damage to insects, wildlife, fish and humans. Ask your local nursery for neonicotinoid-free plants or look for neonicotinoid-free tags. Here is a list of some nurseries we know about.

GardenSphere in Tacoma. All herbs, veggies, natives, nativars and perennials are neonic free. Some trees and shrubs come through distributors, and they are unable to confirm that these are neonic free.
Sky Nursery in Shoreline. Sky sells many plants that are certified neonicotinoid free, including all of those included in their pollinator-friendly displays. Some of their conifers and other plants may have been treated by suppliers with neonicotinoids. Sky’s staff are available to help with choosing neonic-free plants.
Swansons Nursery Seattle. Swansons actively partners with their growers to reduce and eliminate the use of neonicotinoids in their growing operations. They do not apply neonicotinoids to the plants they sell. They are not able to state with certainty that none of their plants have ever been exposed to neonicotinoids before arriving at Swansons. Woodbrook Native Plant Nursery Gig Harbor. Woodbrook had checked with their suppliers in the past but since then has added some new suppliers that they can’t guarantee are neonic free.
